Chapter 14 - Surface Pro 3 Debut

“The invites were already sent out, there was nothing we could do”

On May 4th, Microsoft sent out media invites for a hardware announcement that would take place in New York City. The tagline for the event was “Join us for a small gathering” which tipped off the media and everyone else that the company was preparing to release the long-rumored Surface Mini. Rumors also swirled that there would also be a larger device announced too.

In the weeks prior, Panay and his team were wrapping up the final details for the launch, including determining how the products would be positioned. Deciding Surface Mini or Surface Pro 3 would be showcased first mattered, but that decision would be made easier when Surface Mini was scrapped before launch.
